Official Opening of St. Catherine’s Tae Kwon Do Club

November 5th saw the opening of a new Tae Kwon Do Martial Art’s club in St. Catherine’s Sports Centre in Marrowbone Lane, Dublin 8.

Tae Kwon Do was originally formed in Korea and introduced to Ireland in the 1960’s. It is a great way to learn Self defence, which is its’ main basis, as well as keeping fit.

Mr. John Beveridge, the Instructor of St. Catherine’s Tae Kwon Do, had the privilege of Introducing Mr. Michael Carruth, Olympic Boxing Gold Medallist, to his students on the night of the Official Opening.

Mr. Carruth spoke influentially with the Students and future Students of St. Catherine’s Tae Kwon Do Club, inspiring them to persevere in reaching their ultimate goal of the Olympics. He is living proof that the aspiration is achievable with hard work and determination.

St. Catherine’s Tae Kwon Do Club is now associated with the Irish Tae Kwon Mudo Academy, which is recognised under the World Tae Kwon Mudo Academy.

St. Catherine’s Tae Kwon Do is open to male and female of all ages, classes are held every Friday from 6pm to 7pm for juniors and 7pm to 8pm for seniors. The class focuses on self-defence as well as the sport of Tae kwon Do because it is important for people to be able to defend themselves as well as keeping fit.

A Special thanks has to be given to Mr. Michael Curuth and the staff of St. Catherine’s Sports and Community Centre for their ongoing help and support.
